City of Kansas
Founded in 1838 as the “Town of
Kansas”, Kansas City in Missouri
served a number of times as a
battleground during the Civil War
such as the Battle of Westport. It
is the largest city in the Missouri
state, home to over 240 organized
neighborhoods. The varied
neighborhoods include Crossroads
Arts District, Hyde Park, Ivanhoe,
Pendleton Heights, Quality Hill,
River Market, West Bottoms, and the
18th and Vine Historic District, all
of which are at the city’s urban
core near downtown.
Kansas City has a wide array of
attractions and recreational places
that a place could possibly have.
It’s Parks and Recreation Department
boasts of more than 200 urban parks,
five museums, over 40 park shelters,
49 ornamental fountains, 30 pools,
around a hundred tennis courts, five
golf courses and 10 community
centers. One of the country’s
biggest city parks is also here in
Kansas, the Swope Park.
Twice as big as the Central Park
in New York, it boasts of a number
of picnic areas, a rescue center for
wildlife and woodland nature, a zoo,
two beautiful lakes, a day-camp
area, two golf courses and even an
amphitheater. Equally captivating
Riverfront Park can be found
downtown along the banks of the
Missouri River, where celebrations
of the Fourth of July yearly lights
up the city. Up in the Northland,
there’s 1,029 acre-land that is
known as the Hodge Park. It houses
the Shoal Creek Living History of
Museum, which is village of over 20
historical buildings as dating as
far back as the 19th century. |
